6’8 heavyweight Richard Towers (14-0, 10 KOs) scored a ninth round TKO over Gregory Tony (17-3, 14 KOs) to claim the vacant EBU-EU belt. Towers dropped Tony in round two, round seven, three times in round eight. Tony finally stopped fighting in round nine citing an arm injury and the bout was halted. Tony had his chance in round five when he battered Towers from pillar to post and Towers was very lucky to get out of the round
Unbeaten heavyweight Bryant “By-By” Jennings (14-0, 6 KOs) scored a one-sided ten round unanimous decision over Steve “Freight Train” Collins (25-2-1, 18 KOs) to claim the vacant USBA heavyweight title. Jennings scored a knockdown in round four when the ropes held up Collins and outworked Collins throughout the fight. Scores were 100-89 on all cards
In an important clash between heavyweight contenders, former light heavyweight and cruiserweight world champion Tomasz Adamek (46‐2, 29 KOs) scored a twelve round unanimous decision over “Fast” Eddie Chambers (36-3, 18 KOs) on Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. It was a tactical fight with Adamek clearly busier and Chambers quicker and more accurate. In the end, judges scored it 116-112, 116-112, 119-109. Chambers appeared to suffer an injury to his left arm early in the fight.

Tor Hamer won the one night “Prizefighter International Heavyweights II” elimination tournament on Wednesday night at the legendary York Hall near London finishing on top of the eight fighter field to claim the trophy and £32,000 winner’s check. In the final, Hamer (18-1, 11 KOs) won a three round unanimous decision over Johnson (28-2-1, 13 KOs). Hamer did more over the first two rounds, while Johnson finished stronger. Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson (28-1-1, 13 KOs) won a dull three round split decision over Albert Sosnowski (47-5-2, 28 KOs) by scores of 30-27, 29-28. Sosnowski won 29-28 on the third card.
Tor Hamer (17-1, 11 KOs) bum-rushed 6’6 Tom Dallas (16-3, 12 KOs) and got him out of there in 29 seconds.
Quarter-finals
Former world title challenger Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson (27-1-1, 13 KOs) scored a first round TKO over novice Noureddine Meddoune (4-2, 4 KOs). Johnson floored Meddoune with a right hand and finished him with his follow up barrage. Time: 2:57.
Former world title challenger Albert Sosnowski (47-4-2, 28 KOs) won a three round split decision against Maurice Harris (25-17-2 11 KOs). Harris rocked Sosnowski in round one, but Sosnowski outhustled Harris in rounds two and three to win 29-28, 29-28 on two cards. Harris was up 29-28 on the third card.
Tor Hamer (16-1, 10 KOs) scored a three round unanimous decision over Marcelo Luiz Nascimento (16-4, 14 KOs). Hamer was credited with a dubious knockdown in round three. Scores were 29-28, 30-26, 30-27.
Tom Dallas (16-2, 12 KOs) scored a third round TKO when 260lb Tom Little (3-1, 0 KOs) completely ran out of gas. Time was 1:57.
Ikke helt så spændende en aften som ventet. En defensiv og rolig Kingpin kom aldrig op i gear. Det gjorde Hamer til gengæld. Og han havde den rette taktik mod 3 større modstandere, som han vandt over. Men selv om Hamer er hurtig, er han nok for lille til at gøre sig gældende i fremtiden. Og mon vi ser mere til Tom Dallas? Nu er han blevet stoppet 3 gange i træk.
De forhaster sig stadigvæk ikke med Deontay Wilder (nu 23-0, 23 KOs).
